Pilot: Delta experiments with nutshell
July 7th, 2024
Over de past weeks I have started with some trial experiments in a small flume for the first part of my Veni project on Martian deltas. I will use nutshell grains to simulate the shape and development of Martian deltas in the lab. This material is lower in density while the grain shape and size is equal to that of the silica sand we use in the lab. By using lower density grains, I simulate the effect of reduced gravity. These are a few pcitures of one of these trial experiments.
Before I move to the big Metronome flume for my actual experiments, I will also futher investigate my ideal boundary conditions, like water discharge, sediment supply and water depth.
