Today I went on a small excursion to the ‘plaat van Walsoorden’, a shoal in the Western Sheldt. With thanks to Rijkswaterstaat I was able to look at the variation in mud content at different locations on the shoal, mud layers and a large shoal collapse. Besides my interest in mud I was also astonished by how big the shoal was and how special it was to be there. This area is unreachable by any other than who know how and when to navigate in these shallow waters. Despite getting stuck in the mud once and a leak in my waders, it was a beautiful and fun excursion. Besides, this trip was very useful for my research and a nice change from the computer screen. Thank you Laura and Edwin for the invitation!
